How to prepare your space for a garden.

Published by nicolioso at 7:17 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Thinking about starting a garden but unsure of where you could do it?  Well there are many options for gardening these days.  From the indoor “Micro garden”   to a large outdoor wonder, all gardens require some prep and spacing.Indoor Gardens:You can grow most anything from herbs or flowers, to veggies indoors.  The easiest of these is herbs, you may nestle them into a kitchen window and they will do wonderfully.  You can plant each variety separately in small pots, or get a rectangular pot which can hold a few different plants.  I have both in my window sill.  There are really no rules.  For flowers, make sure that you have read the care instructions for temperature and sunlight requirements.  Most outdoor flowers will do nicely inside.  I have a plant stand in my bedroom full of pots with beautiful flowers in them. There are some great indoor hydroponic systems available for veggie, or micro gardening indoors.  The “Aero Garden” as seen on television is a great one.  For about a hundred dollars you can get one large enough for an entire salad garden.  Wouldn’t it be great to just pick some fresh salad greens and put them right on your plate?  Not to mention the nutritional value of organic veggies.  Tomatoes may be hung in the kitchen upside-down and will do better than the upright outdoor versions as they mostly require air and water for growth. For outdoors:Decide what sort of plants you would like.  In outdoor settings you may put medicinal flowers in with edibles and veggies.  For small spaces a clever idea is a “Rain Gutter Garden” in which you apply empty rain gutters to your porch wall and fill them with dirt and seed.  Anything can be grown in these planters.  If you have a lot of space, you may want to build a raised bed to keep out pesky critters and provide good drainage.
